đź’ˇ To answer the residency questions, please have your DS-2019, I-20, visa, I-94, and/or passport ready.
First part of the Residency section covers questions to determine whether you have US citizenship or Green Card, as well as whether you were present in the US during 2025.
If you are not a US citizen or a Green Card holder and you were present in US during 2025 you will proceed to the second section where we gather information for your presence in the US and your immigration status.
📌 “When did you first ever enter the US” - enter the first date you entered the US on any visa. If you've visited before your current status, use that first entry date. If not, use the date you entered on your current status.
📌 “What is your current immigration status” - enter the status shown on your immigration documents (e.g., DS-2019 box 4 for J status, I-20 for F1 student). This field may be pre-filled.
📌 “What date did you first enter the US on this immigration status” - enter the first date you entered the US under your current status, ignoring any temporary absences.
📌 “What is the expiry date of your current immigration status” - enter the expiration date from your documents (e.g., DS-2019, I-20).
📌 “Final departure date you left or intend to leave the US” - is required if your status expires within the year you’re completing Calculus for. If unsure, use your status expiration date (e.g., SEVIS end date).
📌 “Expiry date of your current US visa” - enter the expiration date shown on your visa.
⚠️ Please note that fields “Country of Citizenship” and “Country of residence” are locked for editing. If incorrect, please reach out to iie@sprintax.com or tax@iie.org.
👉 What is my country of residence?
Note: "USA" is not an option for this question. For tax purposes, your country of residence is the one you declared before arriving in the US. This varies by local tax laws, which consider factors like days spent, home ownership, housing, family ties, and financial interests. Residency may differ from citizenship, which is based on birthplace and legal status.
ℹ️️ Visits to the US should be completed only if you previously visited the US on a different occasion. Include prior visits on F, J, M, or Q visas since 1989, or any visit in the last 3 years on other visa or immigration status.
💡 If you’d like to add previous visits to the US, please click on +Add Status.
🔎 For previous F, J, M, or Q visa statuses, enter initial entry and final exit dates for US visits after 1989. Exclude temporary absences from US for vacation during these periods.
👉 Example: Your 2025 status is J1 - Student, however, you have previously been on F1 - Student status from 2018 until 2022. In “Visits to the US”, please enter the initial entry date in 2018 and the final exit date in 2022 of the previous F1 status.
🔎 Please provide all entry and exit dates for the last 3 calendar years for previous statuses other than F, J, M, or Q.
👉 Example: Your 2025 status is J1 - Student. You previously held a B2 – Tourist visa in 2017, 2018, and 2023. Only the 2023 visit falls within the last 3 years, so enter that visit only. The 2017 and 2018 visits are outside this period and do not need to be entered.
⚠️ If the section “Select if you were out of the US for a full year (01 Jan to 31 Dec) in any of the years listed below” appears, it relates to your immigration status years. If you were in the US even one day during those years, do not select anything and proceed to the next question/section.
➡️ If the “Residency presence days” section is visible, please enter your actual days of presence in the US for the relevant year(s).
