All about your 1042-S form

ℹ️️ IIE will send you an email notification if you are expected to receive a Form 1042-S. It is important to recognize that not every participant in IIE programs will be issued a Form 1042-S. Whether or not you receive this form depends on the specific type of income you have received and your individual tax situation.

👉 In the event that you are not expected to receive a Form 1042-S, IIE will also notify you of this through an email. This message informs you that the form will not be issued and provides guidance on any further tax steps you may need to take.

🔎 If IIE informed you that you won’t receive Form 1042-S, it means no income was paid to you or on your behalf that requires reporting on this form. Not all IIE participants get this form, as it depends on specific tax criteria. Also, many scholarships or payments from IIE are not taxable by U.S. authorities. If you’re not receiving Form 1042-S, it’s likely because your grant or payment isn’t considered taxable U.S. income.

❗IIE usually issues 1042-S tax forms by mid-March. Once ready, access your form via your Sprintax Calculus account (https://calculus.sprintax.com/). If you’re set to receive a 1042-S, IIE will notify you. Wait to file your tax return until you get this form, as it includes essential income details for Sprintax Returns (https://www.sprintax.com/returns/).
