Understanding the Difference Between Sprintax Calculus and Sprintax Returns

💡 It’s important to know that Sprintax Calculus and Sprintax Returns are two separate platforms, each serving a different purpose. Since IIE partners with Sprintax, both systems are used at different stages of the tax process.

👉 Sprintax Calculus (https://calculus.sprintax.com/) is used to collect your personal and payment information so that IIE can issue your Form 1042-S accurately.

  • This platform is not used to file your tax return.

  • You should not begin filing your tax return until all required tax documents, including the 1042-S, have been issued to you.

  • IIE typically makes the 1042-S available by mid-March. At that time, you will receive instructions on how to use Sprintax Returns to file your tax return.

👉 Sprintax Returns (https://www.sprintax.com/returns/) is the tax preparation software you may use to complete and file your tax documents. This includes:

  • Form 1040-NR (Federal tax return);

  • State tax return;

  • Form 8843;

  • FICA refund claim form;

  • W-7 Application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN);
